Speech Recognition- New or Old?

Not so long ago, we saw how big companies started to use automated voice recording to guide us through option menus as a way to speed up and organize the calls that came through. The main technology that was behind that change was a type of speech recognition.

However, speech recognition technology has come a long way from there. Nowadays, we can find it in every personal computer and even in mobile phone applications such as SIRI.

Speech recognition has been around for a while but the technology is still far away from its ultimate goal, which is the ability to speak continuously, no matter what your accent, volume or background sounds are.

The holly grail for this technology will be to reach a point where any computer, phone or other device will perfectly recognize what you say and will be enabled to read your voice mail, take your messages, call someone, or type the words that you dictate into a word processing program.

Currently, many companies like Facebook, Apple and Google have been increasingly looking into Speech recognition and in future posts we will bring more details on, where and how these and many other companies from the automotive, aerospace, military and healthcare sector are using it to revolutionize their industry.
